Couples therapy

Couple walks on the beach

Seeking couples counselling can be beneficial to your relationship at different stages of life.

Life transitions—such as starting a family, moving in together, children leaving home, retirement, unemployment, illness, or the loss of someone close—can place a significant strain on both individuals and relationships. At such times, familiar ways of being together may no longer feel sufficient.

You may find yourselves repeating the same conflicts, feeling hurt by one another, and wondering why it seems so difficult to break these patterns.

Doubts about the relationship may emerge, including thoughts of separation or of reshaping the relationship in a different way.

Many couples begin their relationship with a sense of curiosity and vitality in their sexual connection. As the relationship develops, this may change and can sometimes lead to dissatisfaction or uncertainty.

Support!

Seeking couples counselling early can be a valuable step. Regardless of your age, how long you have been together, or the form your relationship takes—whether monogamous or non-monogamous, heterosexual or LGBTQI+—you are welcome to get in touch. I will be happy to advise you and will, of course, take your personal experiences and background into account.

In my counselling work, I integrate systemic, psychodynamic, and emotion-focused approaches. The choice of methods is guided by your individual concerns and needs.

Counselling is a time-limited, supportive relationship, entered into with the intention of fostering change and eventually bringing it to a close. I therefore work with you for as long as necessary and for as short a time as possible. The number of sessions varies from couple to couple; as a general guideline, many processes involve around 10 to 15 sessions.

Couples counseling -

nice to know

Couples counselling and couples therapy are not legally protected terms and are often used interchangeably. This means that there are no formal requirements governing who may offer such services. For this reason, it is important to consider a counsellor’s qualifications, professional experience, and approach to quality and ethics. I am happy to provide information about my professional background upon request.

In Germany, couples counselling and couples therapy are not covered by statutory health insurance. Health insurance reimbursement is limited to individual psychotherapy for diagnosed mental health conditions and must be provided by a licensed psychotherapist within the statutory system.

If you are seeking individual psychotherapy covered by health insurance, you may search for available therapy places in Bremen here.

Couples counselling is therefore always a privately funded service.
